Topics

One company, two turnover rates
What a tenfold gap inside a single firm — same labor market, same recruiters — reveals about why people actually stay in a job.
Why the security industry cannot keep people
The retention window is narrower and later than almost everyone assumes, and most fixes are aimed at the wrong month.
Government vs. commercial services: two businesses, two scorecards
One is a margin business. The other is closer to a return-on-capital decision. Judging either by the other's metrics leads you badly astray.
What buyers of security should demand, and almost never do
The questions that separate a firm that can staff your site from one that hopes to.
Selling work you also have to staff
What changes about revenue leadership when the person signing the contract owns whether it can be covered.
Running a 650-person labor business on modern tooling
Automation and measurement in an industry that still runs on spreadsheets and text messages.

Short bio (50 words)

Mitch Gyger is co-founder, president, and chief revenue officer of OPS Security Group, a contract security firm of roughly 650 officers serving commercial and government clients across the Mid-Atlantic. He is also co-founder of Curo Shift, a workforce management platform for security guard companies, and writes about the labor economics of security services.

Long bio (150 words)

Mitch Gyger is co-founder, president, and chief revenue officer of OPS Security Group, where he is responsible for the P&L and leads both commercial and government sales. The company places roughly 650 licensed officers across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, New York, and Nevada, serving commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, education, and federal and state government sites.

He came up through operations — district manager, then director of operations, then president — and holds Act 235 and SORA certifications along with training in executive protection and emergency response planning. He is also co-founder of Curo Shift, a workforce management platform built for security guard companies.

Holding two roles that are usually separate — running the business and selling it — shapes how he thinks about the industry's central problem: that retention and coverage are not operational concerns sitting beside the financials, but the financials themselves.
